Adrienne Brown-David’s current body of work focuses on the fleeting nature of black girlhood and the fleeting quality of life itself. Her goal is to shatter the myth of maturity that surround black childhood and to foster an environment where her children and black children everywhere can retain their innocence and sense of wonder.

  • Adrienne Brown-David's body of work captures the dreaminess of southern landscapes as a backdrop to black childhood that is pure and uninterrupted. Her children, and the idea that black childhood is as important and beautiful as every other childhood, is the subject of her work. This piece is created on a wood panel. It is playing with the idea of the gold halos found in religious iconography but with the saint recreated as a young girl.
