The Crowning Series: Nsukka Market I
1st Edition of 5
The Crowning Series is an on-going and evolving performance art piece that started in 2017 and includes a variation of pelvic bone sculptures. This work is about feminism, reproductive rights, birth, womxn's bodies, ritual, motherhood, Matriarchy, treating & seeing the womb as a crown & throne and much more. I have traveled with my pelvic bone sculptures, crowning women & femmes in Miami, Ethiopia, DC, Martha's Vineyard, Pittsburgh, New York, Nigeria (pictured here) and elsewhere. This image was taken in Nigeria at a market I frequented in Nsukka during a sculpture residency with El Anatsui the summer of 2018. The other pieces, including the royal robe, are also significant to my performance practice.
