The Red Rose
Melanie Kambhampati’s work is an exploration of illness, and the time afterward, a time of healing juxtaposed with anxiety. Her exploration of craft, a historical feminine art form, is a way to discuss the female body as feminine, even when made faulty by disease. Her experiences as a patient, as well as her role as a registered nurse, inform her practice. Kambhampati’s use of foam as a hard to control medium symbolizes the control we reach for but never fully achieve when it comes to treating the body.
