Inspired by Akan tribal history, NEGUS explores how even when one's identity is ever developing and evolving, it is always rooted in one's history. The figures share the stool, an Akan symbol of power. Their clothes are impacted by western fashion, while still mixed with traditional Akan style. Their dark skin glitters, similar to the night sky. In this work, Emo’s shows the beauty in black, and Blackness.
