Kathryn Shriver’s artistic practice simultaneously pulls from her academic background in painting and her lifelong engagement with fiber craft, inspired by the women in her family. Her work deconstructs the ways Craft and Art are delineated and intertwined theoretically, materially, and historically, and looks to deconstruct the values embedded in the western canonical story of paintings through the lens of applied arts. Shriver uses domestic craft, everyday objects, conventions of decorative art, and references to wearables to intervene upon expectations of artistic distance and taste.
