Heartache. Forgiveness. Vengeance.

I typically start with a photograph I have taken of my subject and then build from there. I use many iterations of different parts of their body to construct an image. Then I begin all the layers. These layers vary from paper, glass, yarn to paint. In the end, it becomes a fleshed out image of how I see my subjects, the real side they keep hidden. Look closely.

  • This work is part of my Journal Series. It is my literal musings. I don't like to rewrite in traditional journals. So literally write stream of consciousness directly to my small canvases. I have so many journal "pages" lying around my art studio.
  • These are my words that went into this work: "Forgive them father. They know not what they do. Forgive them. Forgive me. For my anger burns. Burning for all those I have lost. Embers glowing due to the selfishness of others. Simmering for the rage within. They know not what they do. I ask, “why do you tolerate oppression?” The answer. “Patience. I will fight for you.” This softens my fury, though it is deep. Patience I say. Just a little longer. While I wait I cry for my children. My loves. My ancestors. My future. But the future has a protector. Only minutes left. Count the minutes. Vengeance will come."
