Las Hermanas Iglesias is Lisa & Janelle Iglesias, sisters born to Dominican and Norwegian parents in Queens, New York. Our moniker references our identities within contexts of teamwork and multiplicity. We align our practice within feminist histories and frameworks, and strategies that instrumentalize open source structures in order to invite translation, transformation and cooperation by various communities
- Las Hermanas Iglesias have maintained a collaborative practice since 2005, utilizing gestures on paper as a provisional, transitional processes for connection, translation and transformation. The process of collectively producing artworks is a catalyst for conversations, for idea exchange and mobilization with the potential for disrupting modes of authorship. These works on paper hover between painting and sculpture, offering moments of tactile relief or windows that open onto other surfaces.
