“Trans-generational Epigenetic Inheritance" - is the idea that the environment can affect an individual's genetics, which can in turn be passed on. This concept of our DNA transmitting the experiences of your ancestors is the core reason for my use of fragments black body as a literal interpretation of ancestral memory . I draw from African traditions and re-contextualize them, to our contemporary need for healing and protection. My nights in the studio become ritual and ceremony, and the resulting sculpture become shrines to honor our lost traditions and giving form to our collective Egungun."
