Nina Franco is a Brazilian visual artist based in London, working with photography and installation. Nina has been exploring political issues in her work to examine and reflect on the intersectionality of women, migration and black identity. She creates through the deconstruction of the functionality of objects such as threads and fabric to correlate with ancestry, memory and history.`

Black Iconography is a series of mixed media portraits by the artist Nina Franco that intends to (re)signify the image of people from the diaspora. The images aim to engage in a visual dialogue with the audience about black iconography in order to (re)construct a visual culture, opposing the picturesque images created by the colonial gaze.
