Johanne Rahaman's photography examines and illuminates the dignity of rural and urban Black communities of the State of Florida. Most of her work centers on disenfranchised communities that mirror her hometown, the Laventille Hills in Trinidad. Through oral histories, She traces migratory paths of the African Diaspora, from the US, Latin America, and the Caribbean, to the State of Florida, examining the imprint made by origin and assimilation on tradition, place, language, culture, food, religion and identity, via memory.
