Lauren Mazzei: Basics Don't Have to Be Basic
Lauren Mazzei is a style, beauty, and travel blogger, based out of NYC and NJ. She works in the digital space and is inspired by both the hustle of NYC and relaxing days down the shore. She loves sharing pieces that are versatile and timeless.
What do you look for in the brands or products you use?
I generally look for products that are reliable, long-lasting, and versatile. For clothing and accessories, I usually stick with neutral colors that can be easily paired and layered, as well as certain brands for pricier items that I know won’t wear. When I want to add a statement piece to my closet that’s more vibrant, or try a new beauty brand, I look to small businesses.
Why are those things important to you?
I try to make good investments – a bag I can use every day, skincare that I can use consistently for years, technology that’s reliable. With clothing and accessories, since I tend to lean towards basics, I know I’ll use them for years and want them to last. But, I love discovering small businesses whenever I want to dress up my basics – like buying white sneakers with a little design, etc. and I always stumble upon something amazing and unique from small businesses.
What has been the most challenging thing about the stay at home order?
Missing my friends and family. I try to video chat as much as possible, but I’m so used to being able to run out to a quick brunch or drinks with friends, and I definitely took it for granted. I really miss the energy of the city.
What has been helping you to find balance?
We are raising a little puppy and she brings so much happiness into our lives. She is always excited. I love her so much!
What will be the one thing that will stay with you that you have learned during this time?
Value and foster your friendships and check in on friends and family. I never was one to call or text a lot but now I’m really understanding the importance. Also, I went on an exercise hiatus for a bit but have started exercising at home and it really makes me feel better!
