The ever-evolving idea of home
Ekaterina Popova is an artist and artpreneur who believes that our entire life is a canvas and we have the power to create anything we desire. For Showfields Ekaterina is bringing viewers into her studio and space to talk about her inspiration and process. In her recent practice, Ekaterina has been exploring interiors and the ever-evolving idea of “home” as an immigrant.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your practice:
I moved to the US in 2001 from Russia as a teenager. Since then I have been learning what home and belonging means to me personally. I have dived into this subject through my artistic practice with oil, acrylic, and watercolor. I have been painting interiors and intimate spaces for close to
a decade, exploring these concepts. The creative journey of this process and the resulting conversations have been an equally exciting and healing process for me.
What kind of artwork is relevant to our generation and
the times we are living?
I think art has the power to bring change and understanding to society, and that the most powerful work is created in honesty and highlights individual experiences such as immigration, race, culture, and sexuality.
